2009 is off to a sad start for Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Hewitt and her fiance Ross McCall ended their engagement, reports People.com.
"They broke up over the holidays and have ended their engagement," a source close to the couple tells People.com
"They're both really sad about this. Even their friends are surprised; they seemed really happy. Everyone just wants the best for both of them."
The Ghost Whisperer actress and Scottish actor became engaged in 2007 after two years of dating.
